        Superintendent Ron Costa

Ron has had the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of the Escalon Unified School District since 2010. Prior to serving as Superintendent, Ron served as an Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Chief Business Official, Director of Secondary Education, Principal, Assistant Principal, and most importantly, as a teacher. During his educational career, Ron has been involved at all levels of the educational system from Transitional Kindergarten through the university level. Ron strongly believes in being proactive – providing students the services to meet their needs instead of providing remediation when students are performing below standard and struggling. This belief is the basis for our district mission statement, “We will insure that all students learn at high levels.”

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year

 Dear EUSD Community,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. It is a pleasure and honor to serve the Escalon community as the Superintendent of Escalon Unified School District (EUSD). There are many things that set our district apart from other districts. One of the most important is that our district is fortunate to be in a community who supports our students and our dedicated staff who make student learning a priority

Our dedicated teachers and support staff have embraced the PLC (Professional Learning Community) culture which empowers the teaching staff to work as teams and collaborate to ensure that our instruction maximizes student learning. PLC collaboration days have been added to our school calendar, approximately 1 day every two weeks, to allow staff the time to meet as educational teams, review student data and work to improve instructional practices.

EUSD continues to provide options for students within our district. Last year, the district added two CTE Pathways for students at EHS, a First Responders Pathway and a Computer/Game Design Pathway.  Due to the student excitement about the CTE pathways, the district is adding an additional CTE teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.  The district also started a popular Dual Language Immersion Academy at Collegeville Elementary where students become bilingual and biliterate. The program began with two kindergarten classes last year. Two first grade classes have been added for the 2019-2020 school year and additional classes will be added in future years.

To meet the challenges of the 21st century, EUSD is continuing to provide a wide variety of supports and services to help enrich the educational experience for all students. Among those are:

  • Every student 2nd grade through 10th grade is provided with a Chromebook.  11th grade students will be provided a Chromebook in 2020-2021 and 12th grade students in 2021-2022.
  • Every student has access to mental health services (counselors, psychologists, clinician) should they need support.
  • Every high school student has access to college prep and advanced placement classes, elective classes and high quality, popular CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways.

Thanks to the ongoing support of our community, EUSD continues to modernize our facilities to better serve our students. Funds used from Measure B, the school bond measure passed in 2012, were used to modernize EHS. The remaining bond funds are being used to complete Phase I of the Dent Elementary modernization. This is just a beginning of the modernization that EUSD facilities need but with the continued support of our community, EUSD will continue to modernize and provide our students with facilities that meet the needs of our 21st Century learners.

In addition to the improvements funded through bond funds, the district has recently finished or is currently finishing the following facilities improvement projects:

  • Reroof main classroom buildings at El Portal
  • Replace HVAC units on classroom buildings at El Portal
  • Modernize the quad at El Portal making it more usable for students
  • Improve Septic System at Van Allen
  • Consolidate the district office support staff at district office
  • Develop a new domestic well at Van Allen
  • Install 5 new classrooms (3 at Collegeville Elementary and 2 Gateway Home School)

I am proud of our excellent schools, teachers and staff members and the continued focus put on improving student learning. I invite you to be a partner in our schools and welcome your participation in the education of our students. To keep up on what is happening in our district, please follow us on our Escalon Unified School District Facebook page.

The Escalon Unified School District staff is here to serve the students and families of our community.  Please do not hesitate to contact our schools or departments if you have questions or would like to visit our campuses.
